Yamnuska Mountain Guides Inducted into Honorary Platoon

Friday August 19, 2011 marked the official close of the six week 2011 Army Cadet Leadership and Challenge program at the Rocky Mountain National Army Cadet Summer Training Center (RMNACSTC).  Yamnuska Mountain Adventures has been the proud provider of adventure training and a sponsor of cadet leadership awards for a number of years. Yamnuska is a leading provider of mountain-based adventure and technical training for the Canadian and British armies.

Each year the final day of the camp is marked by a formal parade where the cadets put on an impressive display of military drill with musical performances by the cadet Pipes and Drums platoon.  During this ceremony a select group of individuals are inducted into the ‘Honorary Platoon’. The Honorary Platoon recognizes military personnel and civilians for their outstanding contribution to the leadership and challenge course at RMNACSTC. This year two Yamnuska Mountain Guides Lloyd ‘Kiwi” Gallagher and Greg Yavorsky were given the highest honor at the Rocky Mountain Cadet Camp by being 2011 inductees into the Honorary Platoon. Kiwi and Greg join 2007 inductee Mountain Guide Pierre Lemire and 2009 inductee Martin Lalonde (Program Director – Fall Protection Group) as Yamnuska civilian honorary platoon members.

In addition to being outstanding guides and individuals, both Kiwi and Greg have personally influenced the development of thousands of young army cadets. Their technical skills in addition to their leadership capabilities have played an important part in the overall success of the Rocky Mountain cadet program and we couldn’t be more proud of their special military recognition. As a symbol of their membership into this select group, Greg and Kiwi were presented engraved wooden handle mountain axes during the ceremony. Congratulations Greg and Kiwi!

We wish all cadets who participated in the program safe travels to their home units and we look forward the 2012 training season.

Thank you Virginia. We feel privileged to be part of this program. All of the cadets have earned their spot at the Rocky Cadet Camp and we are lucky to work with them all. The final parade was great this year and we wish Cadet Mulder great future success. Thank you again for the kind comments.
