Summer mountaineering kicks off

Every mountaineer dreams of perfect conditions for their accent. Early season conditions where the snow covers the crevasses and the clear night skies freeze the crust for safe, easy travel. Since this is a dream let's not have it too cold and only a gentle breeze so we don't sweat in the wonderful sunshine that lights up our summit.

Mt Athabasca

I didn't think that this was possible, but at the end of May on the Yamnuska Mountain Adventures Snow and Ice long Weekend we had it all. Climbers came from all over the country to learn some of the basics of how to travel safely in the alpine mountain environment. The course was lead by Grant Meekins, ACMG Mountain Guide and backed up by myself as the apprentice Alpine Guide.

Two great days of learning, topped off by a summit of the nearby Mount Athabasca, created a super experience.

Hope you enjoy this little video of the course.

If you are interested in this trip or any other that comes to mind please contact Yamnuska reservations at info@yamnuska.com
