Twice a year the Operations team has the pleasurable task of visiting the Patagonia reps and choosing the staff uniforms for the coming year. Patagonia and Yamnuska work in partnership to provide our staff with performance outerwear that not only looks great and wears well, but also keeps us comfortable while we are doing what we do best, taking care of our guests. We are proud to say that Yamnuska Mountain Adventures is a Pataguide™ company. We are the only Canadian guide service recommended by Patagonia. An honor we take seriously.
This year we have picked a winner. The Patagonia Stretch Nano Storm® Jacket is Outside’s Gear of the year choice for 2017. The Nano-Air® Hoody was a favorite staff pick two winters ago and this year Patagonia has added a stretchy two – layer waterproof/breathable H2No® Performance Standard shell. The insulating layer is 60-g full range insulation highly breathable liner. This will make for the perfect insulated layer to put on at belays and for the ski down on those cold snowy days that we are hoping for. The jacket features waterproof zippers on all pockets, sealed cordlock system for adjustment, zippered underarm vents and a fully adjustable hood to fit over alpine and ski helmets. Total weight of the Jacket 581 g (20.5 oz) making it a fantastic outer layer without the burden of bulk and weight. (enemies of the alpinist!)
Our relationship with Patagonia spans over five years. At our Core Guides meeting last year Patagonia sent two top designers Kelly Cordes and Eric Rice to talk to the pros at Yamnuska to see what our guides needed to protect themselves from the often, harsh mountain environment. Our local Patagonia reps are constantly checking and touching base to ensure that we are getting what we need in durable and dependable clothing.
Kudos to our partners at Patagonia for continued commitment in producing high functioning outwear and giving back to the environment. Needless to say, we in turn highly recommend the Patagonia label to all of our guests.
