Custom Hiking and Trekking Adventures in the Canadian Rockies

Organizing a private or custom hiking trip with us offers a truly rewarding experience. Every detail—from pace and difficulty to level of service and comfort—is tailored to the needs and abilities of you and your group. With no compromises, our goal is to ensure your adventure meets your objectives perfectly.

The Canadian Rockies are among the world’s premier hiking destinations, offering breathtaking mountain scenery, easily accessible trails, and a wide variety of hiking styles. We design trips for individuals, families, and groups of friends of all ages. While our primary focus is Canada, we also offer custom hiking and trekking adventures in destinations worldwide, including the Himalayas, Andes, and European Alps.

Whether you have a dream itinerary in mind or want us to craft a personalized adventure, we can handle every detail. From local transportation and accommodations to equipment rentals and meal planning, we ensure your trip is seamless and memorable.

Trip Options

Backpacking
Backpacking lets you carry everything you need as you move from campsite to campsite, giving you full access to remote wilderness areas. You’ll carry your personal gear, sleeping bag, and a share of group supplies. For added convenience, we can arrange porters to transport loads between campsites or resupply food caches. This style of trip offers a full outdoor living experience in some of the Rockies’ most pristine areas.

Suggested Trips: Rockwall Highline in Kootenay National Park, Healy Pass to Storm Mountain in Banff National Park, Skyline Trail in Jasper National Park.

Backcountry Lodges
Backcountry lodges offer wilderness immersion with added comfort. Access is typically by foot or helicopter, and lodges provide meals and lodging, so you carry only personal gear. Each day, you can explore surrounding mountains on guided hikes, combining adventure with comfort.

Suggested Trips: Shadow Lake Lodge in Banff National Park, hut-to-hut hiking in Wells Gray Provincial Park.

Helicopter Camping
Experience the spectacular scenery of Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park with helicopter-accessed camping or rustic log cabins. Nearby Mount Assiniboine Lodge provides a base for day hikes to passes, alpine lakes, and peaks, combining convenience with unforgettable backcountry adventure.

Suggested Trip: Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park.

Hotel or Front-Country Camping & Hiking Programs
For those preferring shorter hikes or a mix of comfort and adventure, we can organize multi-day itineraries using hotels or front-country campsites. Each day offers new trails and breathtaking scenery, making it easy to explore the best of the Canadian Rockies.

Suggested Trips: Multi-day camping or hotel-based itineraries through Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, and Yoho National Parks.

Once we have designed your program we will supply a quote for your approval. This quote will reflect what exactly is included in the package. Once approved we will require a deposit with balance of payment due 8 weeks in advance. Depending on the trip guests may be required to complete an experience questionnaire. The company hiking waiver must be signed before trip commencement.

In the simplest case of a day hike you may be looking at the cost of hiring a guide alone without any extras. Other programs may also include meals, accommodation, national park fees, gear rentals and anything else needed to ensure the success of the program.

Our prices are subject to a 5% Goods and Services Tax (GST). Gratuities not included.

The Simpson Group offers a wide range of travel insurance options including Trip Cancellation/Interruption, Travel Medical, and Personal Effect Loss for both Canadian and International Travelers. Other providers offer similar services and we encourage you to select an appropriate level of coverage. We highly recommend purchasing this insurance to cover and protect you against unforeseen events. The two basic types of insurance that most travellers need to consider are Medical and Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance.

Insurance Risk
One of the ways to mitigate risk is by purchasing appropriate insurance. Simpson Group Insurance Services who are travel & health risk specialists, work with technical and high-risk insurance solutions both in medical and non-medical spheres.  We highly recommend that you review your insurance needs to cover and protect you against unforeseen events. It is wise to ensure that your health plan will cover you in case of illness or accident during your trip. Simpson Group have a team standing by to answer any of your questions.

Emergency Medical Evacuation
While there is typically no charge for search & rescue in the National and Provincial Parks for active pass holders, costs such as air & ground ambulance after the rescue are not covered by your park pass. The chance of a large bill associated with this risk is a real possibility.

For Canadians
A common myth is that healthcare across provinces is fully covered. There are many things which do not carry interprovincial agreements. Ambulance services, medical evacuation, and some services which one province charges more than another you’d be responsible to pay the difference.

For Internationals
A common myth is that healthcare in Canada is free. Although it is less expensive than US healthcare, charges for non-residents can still be very high. Proper medical health insurance is essential if you were to get injured. Most coverages exclude rock climbing, mountaineering, ice climbing, backcountry skiing and the like. Simpson Group can make sure all those risks are well covered.

Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance
We recognize that our guests’ schedules may change for many reasons, business, family, flight delays, injuries, and other unplanned events.  For these eventualities, Trip Cancellation/Interruption insurance is a great way to protect your investment. We can assure you that circumstances do arise that prevent guests from participating in trips or courses and trip cancellation & interruption insurance is a relatively easy way to manage your level of risk of unforeseen events.

For all your travel insurance requirements we recommend Simpson Group Insurance Services.  For more information and to purchase a plan, visit Simpson Group’s website.
