Discover Rock Climbing in the Canadian Rockies
Rock climbing is one of the most exciting ways to experience the Canadian Rockies. From beginner-friendly crags to classic multi-pitch routes, the region offers climbs for every skill level, with breathtaking scenery around Canmore, Banff, and Lake Louise. Thanks to the rise of indoor climbing gyms, more people than ever are learning the skills needed to take their passion outdoors.
At Yamnuska Mountain Adventures, we offer guided rock climbing courses and programs for all levels. Whether you’re stepping on a rope for the first time or aiming to tick off legendary climbs, our expert guides will help you build skills, confidence, and unforgettable memories.
The climbing season runs May through September, with lower-elevation crags often climbable into early October, while higher alpine routes typically wrap up by mid-September.
Discover Rock Climbing: Experiential Rock Climbing programs (half-day and full-day instruction) generally run from May to mid-September. These are held at climbing areas in Banff, Kananaskis and Canmore and provide great accessible venues for an introduction to this rewarding sport.
Rock climbing is accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels—no brute strength required. Beginner routes feel more like climbing a ladder when you use your legs efficiently instead of pulling with your arms. With proper technique and expert coaching, you can progress confidently, while advanced climbs develop over years of skill, strength, and experience.
Rock Climbing Courses
Learn rock climbing at single-pitch or top-rope areas near Banff, Canmore, and Lake Louise. Top-roping uses an anchor at the top while a partner belays from below. Most of our two-day beginner courses include an optional multi-pitch day, giving you the chance to complete your first guided multi-pitch climb.
Dress in layered, close-fitting clothing to stay comfortable in changing mountain conditions. Bring water, high-energy snacks, and sun protection, including SPF and UV-rated layers for exposed skin.
Rock climbing is a fun way to stay active, challenge yourself, and enjoy the outdoors. Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced climber, the Canadian Rockies offer unforgettable adventures, and we’d love to guide your next climb.
