Our AST 2 course has been redesigned to make it easier for you to advance your avalanche skills and we are excited to tell you about these changes.
There is no longer a prerequisite for you to have taken a Yamnuska AST 1 course in the same season to receive the AST 2 certificate. Going forward as long as you have taken an AST 1 course in the past from an approved Canadian Avalanche Center course provider, you can take the Avalanche Skills Training 2 course and receive your certificate.
Our Director of Operations, Dave Stark, YMA’s senior avalanche professional has approved these changes in order to better facilitate the flow and effectiveness of AST training.
To accommodate the requisite change we have made adjustments to our curriculum that ensures anyone who takes our AST 2 course walks away with the most current training and standards as set out by the Canadian Avalanche Center.
Yamnuska is Canada’s foremost recreational Avalanche Skills Training provider in Canada, which means you can count on us to receive the most up to date curriculum by our certified guides.
“I thought this program was excellent! In the classroom and out in the field, there were many opportunities to practise real skills like routefinding, slope angle evaluation, finding transceivers, digging snow pits, etc. And James did a good job of providing the information necessary for us to make decisions for the practice. He asked key questions and made sure we each expressed a lesson learned after the burial scenario.”
