Our weekend beginner avalanche awareness courses have been running full these last few weekends. For an independent review read Parry Loeffler’s writeup on his website, Parry’s Outdoor Adventure Reviews . The “AST 1 Avalanche Skills Training Course” course follows a syllabus designed by the Canadian Avalanche Association. If you are heading off-piste or into the winter back country this course gives you you some very basic yet important tools that will greatly improve your safety. Things such as how to recognize the slopes and the angles that avalanches occur on. This past weekend was challenging due to really cold temps on the field day yet our team of Stevie B., Nick Rapaich and Tim Auger managed to cover all the material to the satisfaction of all. Here’s what one student had to say “I was very impressed with the way the program was facilitated. It incorporated all the different ways of learning (e.g. kinsethetic, visual, interpersonal, intrapersonal, etc.). There was a good, clear progression from one subject to the next so everything made sense. ” This weekend’s avalanche awareness course is now full but subsequent courses do have space left.
