Tension was in the air. The thermometer read -21°C and the stoves were not cooperating. The soldiers thought they were in for a night of misery.
After five days on the ski hills around Banff, it was time to take the British soldiers on the overnight exercise. Half the soldiers had never set foot on a ski resort let alone camped out in the winter. We ski toured a few kilometers from the boundaries of Sunshine ski resort and set about constructing snow shelters. Once the sun went down, the temperatures plummeted and the soldiers retreated into their freshly dug out snow quinzies.
Morning came and we roused the soldiers, who emerged to a beautiful sunny day. Everyone was pleasantly surprised about how warm and comfortable their night had been.
After a hot breakfast and couple warm brews we were off for some more winter training.
Thanks fellows for a great week skiing.
