Summer is finally here and I was lucky enough to usher it in with 4 days of rock climbing in the beautiful Ghost River Wilderness area. This a truly special place, where one can enjoy a remote wilderness feel, with an almost endless supply of multi-pitch rock climbs on some of the Rockies best limestone! Davy from Norway, a veteran of this spring’s Mountain Skills Semester, was joined by his wife Nicholine for this adventure. A 2 hour drive from Canmore put us at a car camping basecamp at the end of a bumpy, primitive road, right beside the Ghost River, where we had easy access to both the North and South Ghost areas. We only saw a few other climbers during our stay, as we sampled some of the fine single pitch and long multi-pitch climbs the Ghost has to offer.
Not visited by many, but offering amazing climbs in a spectacular setting, the Ghost is a place that every climber should visit at least once in their lifetime. Yamnuska offers the Ghost Rock trip during the summer, and they can also tailor a custom trip into this special area for you and your friends.
Thanks to Davy and Nicholine for sharing this adventure with me!
