To quote Barry Blanchard: “It doesn’t matter how desperate the rest of the world is for ice, it’s always happening here!” It might be a bit of a slow start, but speed ice climbing is here. We climbed Shades of beauty yesterday. The route is located in an amazing setting near the Athabasca Glacier, on the climb we found hero ice, every swing was good, the temperatures were nice and comfortable. On the way back we stopped for pictures along the parkway and shared beers and stories at the Grizzly Paw once we got back to Canmore.
Even if classics like the Weeping Wall need another week of cold temperatures before they can be enjoyed once again, many more classics are ready to go.
Cheers
