Awesome scramble up Mount Temple this past weekend on Yamnuska’s Canadian Rockies 11,000ers program, with veteran guests Brian Gray, Silvie-Marie Fortin and new comer Kevin Boles. Silvie is training to climb Mt Rainer in Washington, USA. It’s a 14,411ft (4,392m) summit, so Mt. Temples 11,625ft (3543m) summit was a perfect training mission for her. We wish her the best of luck in Sept. This was Kevin’s second mountain scramble and Brian who has done several trips with us was looking for a good long day out in the mountains.
Well, the day was a little more engaging than all of us were planning on. This winter was a long one and we had a lot of snow to go with it. That said it’s still lingering around up high. With the upper half of the scrambling route covered in snow and ice. Crampons, ice axe and the rope became an essential part of making the day a safe and successful assent. All four of us had a great day and felt pretty lucky to have the route/summit to ourselves, which is rare for mid-July. This is a popular scramble and it’s not uncommon to see several people along the way.
Thanks guys for putting in a good long day out! 13 hours car to car.
