What does Yamnuska need from a mountain boot? Comfort, warmth, durability and reliability are the top ranking requirements.
Scarpa are one of the top mountain boot manufactures on the planet and for many years have been the obvious choice for Yamnuska Mountain Adventures. They have proven themselves to be comfortable, warm, durable and reliable over the hundreds of days of guest use in the mountains. We have traditionally used the Inverno plastic boot but last summer we decided to integrate the updated Omega plastic boot into our inventory. The Omega is a more technical boot that is significantly lighter. In fact 340 grams lighter per pair in comparison to the Inverno (size 9US); that’s over 25%! This is achieved by using a light weight Intuition liner, carbon fiber inserts in the soles for stiffness and a flexible 100% Pebax upper boot. The light weight Intuition liners, that are made of closed cell foam, are warm and comfortable and do not have a lacing system which eases use. Scarpa is still using the tried, tested and true Vibram soles which are famous for their grip and durability.
A summers worth of use has proved the Omega to be slightly less durable but all the other qualities are similar to the Inverno. However, with the added advantage of increased walking comfort I would have to rate the Omega higher than the Inverno. This will be our first winter using the Omega but we believe it will out perform the Inverno with its more technical last and its lighter weight. We believe that these boots will increase your ease in the mountains whether you are on a summit day, a waterfall ice route or learning new mountain skills.
