A Great Spring Adventure!
After having read many mountaineering stories, Michael thought it was time to turn his armchair adventures into reality. Being unfamiliar with the sport of mountain climbing Michael spent two days with Yamnuska learning some skills and getting to summit his first mountain.
The first day found us at the King Creek Ice Flows. The spring ice was thick and Michael learned the art of climbing frozen waterfalls. For day two Michael had a choice to make. We could either stay at valley bottom and hammer out some skills or we could saddle up and climb Coire Dubh Integral, a 550m ice and rock climbing route that would take us to the summit of Loder Peak. Michael chose the Mountain, he thought there was no better way to find out if climbing was really for him.
The next day the Climb went fantastically. Under clear skies, the first 250m of ice climbing breezed by. Now it was time to take off our crampons and rock climb to the summit. The rock was snow free and at times we were climbing without gloves. The summit, albeit windy, affoarded us amazing views.
Thanks for two great days of climbing Mike!
