Yes! Another successful Snow and Ice Long weekend! With all the challenging weather we have been having this spring, there have been few windows of opportunity to summit peaks. Well, mother nature decided to work with us this past weekend for a summit bid on Mt Athabasca!
We had to alter the program a bit to try and match the best weather day for the summit day. Since Sunday’s forecast was for blue skies, Barry, Pete, Jesse and myself decided that we would make the first day a full day of snow and ice school so that we could head up the peak on day two. All nine guests were in good form and we managed to climb the peak in record time!
Good travel conditions made for good steps going up the AA col and soft steps descending to cushion the knees. Back at camp by 2pm for a nice relaxing afternoon in the sun to digest the day’s events. The third day we spent on some more technical training and had everyone mastering the basic techniques for crevasse rescue. Great weekend and thanks to our guests who made it possible to reach for the top! Come and join us for one of our Snow and Ice Long weekends coming up!
