Yamnuska Named Canadian Tourism Commission Signature Experience

Yamnuska Mountain Adventures is thrilled to announce that our company has been recognized as a ‘Signature Experience’ provider for uniquely Canadian experiences by the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC).  On October 18, 2011 the CTC announced that Yamnuska Mountain Adventures has been granted this prestigious honour citing our Wapta Traverse ski trip as a signature winter experience and our Wapta Ice Hike as a signature summer experience.  Both glacier traversing programs are located in Banff National Park, Canada’s oldest and largest National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

‘The Signature Experience program recognizes those travel related companies and experiences who live the values of truly Canadian experiences’ says Len Youden, General Manager of Yamnuska Mountain Adventures.  ‘As a small company we tend to take what we do for granted but our mountain experiences are very special for most of our guests’, says Youden.  ‘Our guides and staff do what they do for a living because they are passionate about our mountain environment.  This passion and enthusiasm resonates in everything we do as an organization and I couldn’t be more proud of our team right now.  Mix all of that with our mountains and I can see why the CTC might think this is a signature experience’.

We consider ourselves custodians of our mountain environment and every person who joins us for a trip or course walks away with a deeper appreciation and respect for that environment.  An integral part of any one of our programs is conservation and appreciation of where we conduct our recreational activities.  ‘It’s an understated take away from a mountain trip with us’ Youden says.  ‘You come to the mountains to learn a technical skill or to just get away but I think a part of you changes when you stop and appreciate where you are.  We constantly remind our guests of that because it can create a pretty powerful and lasting connection’.

The CTC Signature Experiences Collection was announced in Banff in July this year by the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism). It is an innovative marketing approach to encourage more international travellers to Canada and satisfy their craving for the unique and the exotic. “By highlighting unique Canadian experiences abroad, this ground-breaking initiative will encourage the world to visit Canada,” says Minister of State Bernier. “It will increase our share of international visitors and generate greater revenues for Canadian businesses.”

CTC’s marketing strategy is to use the Collection to make Canada stand out in the fiercely competitive tourism marketplace by showcasing members of the Collection as compelling ambassadors of Canada’s tourism brand, “Canada. Keep Exploring” in the 11 countries where it invests including the UK, France, Germany and Australia.

Yamnuska Mountain Adventures is one of a select group of companies in 2011 that are being recognized as providing Signature Experiences in Canada.
